“As a young man in the late 70’s, I was trying to decide if a career in allied health was my life’s calling when my best friend was involved in an accident, which resulted in him becoming a quadriplegic. His rehabilitation was my introduction to the world of physical therapy. It intrigued me to the point that I secured a job as a physical therapy aide in my hometown hospital where I gained some valuable experience. This experience and the love of helping people led me to pursue a degree in physical therapy. Each day I work as a physical therapist, I reflect back to a comment an elderly clergyman made to me. He said ‘It takes special people to treat those who are experiencing illness or injury.’ For me, it’s a challenge and a joy to help people in some way—large or small.

The human body truly interests me in the way it functions in good or ill health. Being a physical therapist has allowed me to combine this with the skills required to assist my patients in their recovery and return to more normal activities. It is truly a great feeling when I have been able to help someone accomplish this goal.”
